ADDED 11/3/03:
The Jacksonville High School boys cross country team
placed 3rd behind Leeds and Indian Springs in the
Class 3A-4A, Section 3 meet in Leeds Thursday
afternoon, qualifying them for the state meet in
Oakville on November 8. Team members were Chris Moore
(9th, 21:06), Jeremy Maloney (14th, 23:23), Todd
Cunningham (15th, 23:24), Elliott Helm (22nd, 27:50),
Jordan Bass (23rd, 28:03), Christian Spiceland (24th,
29:26), Judson Brock (25th, 29:37) and Bradley Bellamy
(26th, 30:13). Two Jacksonville girls qualified for
the state meet as individuals: Kathryn Hindman (2nd,
26:36) and Courtney Laplante (4th, 30:01). In each Sectional meet, the top 3 teams and the top 6 individuals not on the top 3 teams qualify for the state meet.THE HIGH SCHOOL COUNTY MEET was at the Jacksonville State University track on April 16-17, 2003:

A HIGH SCHOOL STATE CLASS 2A SECTIONAL MEET was at the Jacksonville State University track on April 22.
Schools competing were Lineville, North Sand Mountain, Ohatchee, Pisgah, Pleasant Valley, Randolph County, Sand Rock, Vincent, Weaver, Westbrook Christian, and White Plains. |
JACKSONVILLE HIGH WAS IN A 4A SECTIONAL at Beauregard High School near Opelika on April 26, 2003. Schools competing were Beauregard, Central-Coosa, Childersburg, Cleburne County, Dallas County, Handley, Hokes Bluff, Jacksonville, and Saks. In this meet, 14 JHS athletes qualified for the state meet in Tuscaloosa on May 2-3. |

Suzanne LaPlante is Jacksonville High School's cross country coach starting in 2003.
Ricky Rutledge is stepping down as cross country coach as he enters
his first year as head football coach at Jacksonville High School.
NEWS FROM JACKSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ROAD RACES: updated 9/3/03
Rather than continuing to have four 5K races per year, Jacksonville High school will now have one 5K, one 4 Mile, one 5 Mile, and one 10K. Following the Eagle Wings 5K on 9/6/03, all of the races will bear the name "Golden Eagle" and be identified individually by their various distances. The 4 Mile Run in February will remain a 4 Mile on the same neighborhood course used for the first time on 3/1/03. The 5 Mile Run on the third Saturday in May, run as a 5 Mile for the first time in 2003, starts at the gym and goes out and back on the Chief Ladiga Trail. The 5K on the Saturday after Labor Day will remain a 5K on the same 5K neighborhood course and will include a high school cross country meet within the race with high school competitors also being eligible for awards in the open 5K road race. The race on the last Saturday in November will become a 10K starting and finishing at the gym and going out and back on the Chief Ladiga Trail. Watch for more information about these upcoming races.

JACKSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL 2002 CROSS COUNTRY TEAM NEWS:
Jacksonville High School's cross country team
concluded its season at the sectionals in
Scottsboro on November 2. The team opened its
season on September 7 by defeating Pleasant
Valley 26-33 in a mixed team dual meet scored
within the Eagle Wings 5K.
HIGH SCHOOL TEAM RESULTS--EAGLE WINGS 5K
Jacksonville next
competed in the Scottsboro High School
Invitational 5K on September 21. For the boys,
Eric Beall was 112th in 21:59, Dana Mann 117th in
22:24, Jeremy Maloney 150th in 24:36, Elliott
Helm 177th in 29:11, and Cal Newman 178th in
30:32. For the girls, Kathryn Hindman was 110th
in 28:14 and Deanna Alldredge 124th in 31:00. The
team next competed in the Cullman High School
Invitational on September 28. For the boys, Dana
Mann was 88th in 22:33, Jeremy Maloney 114th in
25:32, Cal Newman 127th in 26:45, and Elliott
Helm 139th in 30:12. For the girls, Kathryn
Hindman was 70th in 27:35 and Deanna Alldredge
78th in 29:35. On October 5, team member Elliott
Helm ran 26:45 for 1st in the 14-under boys in
the Fall Festival 5K in Centre. On October 12,
Jacksonville (56) lost a mixed team triangular
meet to Pleasant Valley (25) and Oxford (41),
scored within the Health in Balance 5K.
HIGH SCHOOL TEAM RESULTS--HEALTH IN BALANCE 5K
On
October 19, some team members ran in the Janney
Furnace 5K in Ohatchee. In the 14-under boys,
Eric Beall was 1st in 21:41, Jeremy Maloney 2nd
in 22:59, Cal Newman 4th in 27:26, and Elliott
Helm 5th in 31:45. In the 15-19 boys, Dana Mann
was 1st in 21:43. In the 14-under girls, Kathryn
Hindman was 1st in 25:28 and Deanna Alldredge was
2nd in 27:26. On October 26, team member Jeremy
Maloney ran 24:15 for 1st in the 14-under boys in
the Physicians Who Care 5K in Gadsden. At the
sectionals in Scottsboro on November 2, for the
boys, Jeremy Maloney was 49th in 22:58, Cal
Newman was 64th in 26:59, and Elliott Helm was
65th in 27:57. For the girls, Kathryn Hindman was
33rd in 24:56 and Deanna Alldredge was 39th in
27:00.

JACKSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL 2001 CROSS COUNTRY TEAM NEWS:
The Jacksonville High School cross country team
opened their season in the Scottsboro High School
Invitational on September 15, 2001. Completing the 5K course for Jacksonville were Bryan Doe
(21:38), Patrick Haynes (22:02), Mike Summers
(22:37), Walter Osterbind (24:52), Justin Lord
(25:22) and Jeremy Maloney (25:24).In the Cullman High School Invitational on September 29, boys completing the 5K course for Jacksonville were Bryan Doe (21:20), Andrew Seymour (21:30), Patrick Haynes (21:48), Mike Summers (23:06), Walter Osterbind
(23:57), Jeremy Maloney (24:17) and Justin Lord
(24:40). The only Jacksonville runner in the
girls 5K race was Margaret Summers (34:00),
resulting in an incomplete girls team as at least
5 runners are required for a complete team. No one from Jacksonville qualified for the state meet in the sectionals
in Scottsboro on 11/3/01.
